PRINTING:

Can I print these guides at home?

Yes — These PDFs are designed for easy home printing. For extra durability, I recommend laminating them, printing on waterproof paper, or placing them in a plastic sleeve.

What size paper should I print them on?

Print on standard 8.5” x 11” paper. Be sure to select “Scale to Fit” in your printer settings for the best results.

What type of paper should I use?

You can use standard printer paper or cardstock (especially if laminating). For a more durable, water-resistant option, consider waterproof paper.

Will the colors look the same when printed?

Colors may vary depending on your screen settings, printer type, and paper quality. For the best results, set your printer to “Best Quality” and use high-quality paper.

HOW TO DISPLAY:

How should I hang this in my shower?

• For glass shower doors: Tape the guide to the outside of the door, facing forward, so it's visible from inside the shower.

• For inside the shower: If the guide will be exposed to water, I recommend laminating it or printing it on waterproof paper.

• For a budget-friendly option: Place each page inside a large Ziploc-style bag and use regular tape to secure it to the tile or shower door.

LICENSING AND BULK ORDERS:

How can an institution, school or business use this product?

For bulk orders, we offer laminated physical products that can be shipped directly to you. They will arrive professional printed on waterproof paper, ready to hang.

Customization for businesses is also available. Contact Naava for a quote or to discuss design modifications and licensing options tailored to your brand or product.

WHAT IS INCLUDED:

Each 5-Page Shower Guide breaks down the full shower experience into four key sections, plus an introduction with printing and usage tips:

  • Page 1How to Use This Guide

  • Page 2 – Shampoo

  • Page 3 – Conditioner

  • Page 4 – Body Wash

  • Page 5 – Drying Off

You can choose between two versions:

  1. With Written Instructions – Features step-by-step directions in rhyme, ideal for kids who can read English and prefer detailed guidance.

  2. Illustrations Only – A word-free version that uses visuals to depict each step, perfect for non-English readers or those who learn best through images.

DESIGNER AND COMMISSIONS:

About the designer:

Naava Katz is a mom, teacher, designer, and illustrator. Her art has been collected worldwide and her designs have been sold in Target, Trader Joe’s and Minted.

She also has over ten years of experience teaching art to kids of all ages, mostly in schools for kids with learning disabilities.

When her young daughters faced their own learning challenges, she became an ardent advocate.

"I originally created Shower Stories for my daughter, who struggled with all the steps due to her learning disability. Unable to find anything to help, I designed my own system. After it went viral on TikTok, I knew I had to share it with other families raising neurodivergent kids. If you know, you know."

Do you take commissions or custom orders?

I only work directly with businesses, schools and institutions to create custom guides and charts for their products that will then be printed in bulk. My designs are also available for licensing with your branding. Reach out, and let’s discuss your needs.

SUPPORTING NEURODIVERGENT LEARNERS?

Which neurodivergent challenges are these guides helpful for?

These guides are primarily designed for children with learning disabilities, including executive function difficulties, dyslexia, ADHD, and autism.

I recommend reviewing the guide with your child at first to ensure they understand how to use it.

However, many children — and even some adults — find them helpful for building self-care routines and gaining independence.

Why is showering hard for some kids?

EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING:

For many kids who are neurodivergent, the numerous steps involved in showering can be overwhelming. They may lose track of time or forget what they’ve done.

DYSLEXIA:

Shampoo bottles with confusing jargon and tiny instructions can be a barrier to decoding and comprehension.

SENSORY PROCESSING:

Sensory processing challenges (such as transitioning into water) may interfere with creating a positive shower experience.

NEED FOR INDEPENDENCE

Grown-ups may feel frustrated by the need for repetitive instruction, and kids may feel like they’re getting too old to ask for help as they enter their teenage years.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

These visual guides break down the steps into manageable, easy-to-follow chunks, helping kids feel capable and empowered.

Does my child have to be able to read to use these guides?

No! We offer two versions to fit different learning styles.

  • Illustrations-Only Guide – Uses clear, step-by-step visuals without any text, making it perfect for non-readers, early readers, or kids who learn best through pictures.

  • Rhyming Instructions Guide – Includes written directions in rhyme for kids who can read and prefer detailed steps.

Both versions are designed to support independence and make shower time easier for all kids!

How are these different from other life skills guides?

Traditional life skills charts often use impersonal clip art, making it hard for kids to feel a connection. That’s why Naava hand-drew every illustration with care, and designed a modern font that’s dyslexia-friendly.

Older kids may feel infantilized by using the same educational materials they used when they were younger. Needing help isn’t babyish — it’s a step toward independence.

What is the difference between “Girl guides” and “Boy guides”?

The terms “girl” and “boy” are used to categorize the products, but the guides themselves do not mention gender.

The only differences are that the "girl" guides feature illustrated characters with longer hair and nail polish, while the "boy" guides have characters with short hair and no nail polish. Otherwise, the steps are the same for both.

Why Is It Important for Kids to See Themselves in These Guides?

Kids learn best when they feel seen and represented. Seeing characters that reflect their skin tone helps them feel included, confident, and capable. It reinforces that self-care is for them, not just for someone else.

When kids relate to what they’re learning, they’re more likely to engage, build independence, and take ownership of their daily care.
